What do you think of this simulated case? Please post in the comments...

There are three main types of
HIV test.

1) HIV antibody test.

  • This test shows whether a person has been infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
  • Antibody tests are also known as ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) tests.

2) Antigen test.

  • Antigens are the substances found on a foreign body or germ that trigger the production of antibodies in the body.
  • The antigen on HIV that most commonly provokes an antibody response is the protein P24.
  • Early in the infection, P24 is produced in excess and can be detected in the blood serum by a commercial test (although as HIV becomes fully established in the body it will fade to undetectable levels).
  • P24 antigen tests are sometimes used to screen donated blood, but they can also be used for testing for HIV in individuals, as they can detect HIV earlier than standard antibody tests.
  • Some of the most modern HIV tests combine P24 and other antigen tests with standard antibody identification methods to enable earlier and more accurate HIV detection.

3) DNA or RNA test.

  • These types of tests detect the genetic material of HIV itself, and can identify HIV in the blood within a week of infection.
  • Babies born to HIV positive mothers may be tested using a type of DNA test called a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).
  • Blood supplies in developed countries are screened for HIV using an RNA test known as NAT (Nucleic Acid-amplification Testing).
  • When a person already knows that she or he is infected with HIV, they may also have a viral load test to detect HIV genetic material and estimate the level of virus in the blood.
  • DNA/RNA tests are rarely used to test for HIV in adults, as they are very expensive and more complicated to administer than a standard antibody or P24 test.

Hi, I think AIDS is a real threat to our society and also at large an epidemic which spreads fast. We all know about it's causes, but maybe are not very proactive about it because it's not like other diseases which shows scary symptoms, but is a silent killer.

One of the many reasons for it to multiply is mutliple sexual partners. In today's fast paced life, people have little time for emotions, hence they look into other forums for entertainment, casual affairs if not CSW's provide easy way out and thus those unwanted viruses to grow in number and spirits.

Another reasons can be the outlook today's moders girls have towards external appearance. Trust me it's really difficult to control those hormones when one sees pretty faces decking up the town.

Lastly I should mention the fact that technologically disposable syringes should ensure that they can only be used once, and not for that damned second time. Also it's high time we make HIV tests mandatory for all marriage registrations.

Remember wherever there is a will there is a way.

Hi Ammzz.., Its realy nice to see your awareness towards AIDS.

As far as I am concerning, if AIDs is not checked, it will impact India’s stability. It is as dangerous as any external threat to India.
2-5% of India's population is HIV carrier and 1% is suffering from AIDs.

Blood transfusion and badly sterilize medical instruments are main reason. In government hospitals they reuse syringes. Even in surgery they reuse even disposable gloves. I hope doctors have stopped using thermometer dipped in glass filled with detol.
Beauty parlors are AID death trap.

In my opinion solution of this problem is we must be conscious of the worldwide struggle against HIV/AIDS

Lastly I can say "Together we can work towardsan AIDS-free world "
